April 21, 2011

On Thursday, I had the varsity class. I had been a long time since I haven't heard them. They actually sounded ok on their spring concert music. They sounded a lot better since I last heard them. They pretty much just were going over their music and fixing some mistakes to make the sound better.

Yesterday, it was a normal day. The students were preparing themselves for their spring concert, their last concert of the year.

An assessment is a test. There are different types of assessments for example, multiple choice, matching, true or false, essay, fill in the blank or short answer, identification or labeling. An assessment helps the teacher know if the student actually learn something, or to just see if they know how to do it. It is to evaluate and maximiza a students learning.

On Friday, the students did their scales as always, and I conducted them, I also tuned their instruments. Right know they were just going over the music they were going to play at their trip to Galveston. It was a simple day for me.

My day at Spring Oaks Middle School
Yesterday, it was a very interesting day. On Wednesday the Spring Oaks Middle School Orchestra varsity and non-varsity had their UIL. They got 2,2,1 and 1,1,2. The varsity group got at least a plaque; I think it was for sight-reading not sure. I even got the chance to listen to the non varsity music recording. They actually sounded really good. Of course there was some out of tune notes on the 1st violins, but they sounded amazing. The teacher was not disappointed because he new they did their best, so even thought they didn't get straight one's. The teacher gave them good news and a bad news students good news. The good news were that they are going to go to Galveston. The teacher said he has been thinking about it, and he decided that they students deserve to go to Galveston. The bad news was that they are not going to play over there only varsity was. As them being a student, that was not bad news because some students didn't want to play, so that was good for them. On my second class the director let me teach the second class a song; I really like that song because I remember I played it when I was in middle school. The only problem I had is that that class was a Viola class and not a violin class. It was sort of hard for me to explain them how the song went. Being a music teacher is really hard.

Special Ed Research
On my special ed research I learned that IDEA stand for Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. Back then they didn’t had this program. It was tough for the special ed students had trouble learning, had difficult education experience, and even struggled to advance to the next grade. Now that this program is available at schools, it is easier for the especial ed students to continue with their education. They will even have the same curriculum as us students but in a way that it is easy for them to do.
